Meet the Artists
David Critchfield studied at the California
College of Arts and Crafts and for the past 15 years has
been the owner of the "Bit o' Country" store in Saratoga,
California. Vic Fortunato studied at the San Francisco Art
Institute and has been a master sculptor for the past 20
years.
Both David and Vic have been creating miniatures and
sculpture since childhood. David and Vic teamed up their
creative genius to create these odd and wonderful figures 6
years ago. The artists visualize the concept and use paper
mache as their medium of expression. Poliwoggs are molded
from original paper mache pieces. Each extraordinary piece
is true to the original. |

This style of American Primitive is based
upon what the artist knew rather than what he saw. This
sculpture represents a direct and unpretentious social history
of our time. Poliwogg creators David Critchfield and Vic
Fortunato appreciate folk art for its distinctive style, in
which they feel a kinship with their own work.
Poliwoggs are quickly becoming a modern day Early American
Collectible. Poliwoggs are crafted to look as aged and antique
as the folk art that inspired them. Poliwoggs have been written
about in the "Fabulous Finds" section of Country Collectibles
and the "New and Noteworthy" section of Country Business.
