Kathy Graybill is a self-taught artist whose media include folk art, Pennsylvania German fraktur, tole, and museum reproductions. Her unique and distinctive creations have found their way into many homes, stores, museum shops and galleries across America. They offers a wide variety of reproduction furniture and accessories handcrafted by the artists, as well as tavern signs, one-of-a-kind antique pieces, and folk sculptures. New Creations of reproduction William and Mary furniture pieces, tavern tables, miniatures, and many new signs and carvings, show that the Graybill's are constantly growing as artists. Also, new this year and coming soon are hooked rugs, hooked wall hangings, and 3-D hooked pieces, by Kathy. About Douglas Root (Cabinet Maker / Joiner) Those of you that are familiar with our work know that we have added the talents of Douglas Root, a master of cabinet maker's wares, to our line of furniture and accessories. Douglas has been making cabinets, chest of drawers, and historical reproductions with us for three years now. He brings 15 plus years of experience and attention to detail on such items as hand cut dovetails for drawers, hand turned legs for tables, and hand turned feet to case pieces. Each piece is entirely crafted by hand from rough sawn wood such as poplar, pine, and tiger maple. Doug and Jeff work together choosing which historical reproductions to reproduce and then Kathy hand paints the imagery on the pieces to create a true piece of heirloom furniture. Each piece is signed by Douglas and Kathy. It is then numbered along with a photo and a history of the original antique included. Museums That Have this Furniture include: American Folk Art Museum- New York City Colonial Williamsburg- Williamsburg, VA Westmoreland Museum of American Art- Greensburg, PA Mennonite Heritage Center- Harleysville, PA

Fraktur is both a style of lettering and a highly artistic and elaborate illuminated folk art created by the Pennsylvania Dutch (also known as Pennsylvania Deitsch or Pennsylvanian German). Most Fraktur were created between 1740 and 1860. The blackletter lines are broken up — that is, their forms contain many angles, in contrast to smooth curves. Fraktur drawings were executed in ink and/or watercolors and are found in a wide variety of forms: the Vorschriften (writing samples), the Taufscheine (birth and baptismal certificates), marriage and house blessings, book plates, and floral and figurative scenes. The earlier Fraktur were executed entirely by hand, while printed text became increasingly common in later examples. Common artistic motifs in Fraktur include birds, hearts, and tulips, as well as blackletter and italic calligraphy. Today, many major American museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art have Fraktur in their collection. Important Fraktur have been sold by major American auction houses and antique dealers for prices in excess of $100,000 |
