Pennsylvania Redware uses the German forming and decorating processes originally brought to Lancaster County in the early 1700's. This pottery is fired to a temperature just under 2000° Fahrenheit. The lower temperature allows for a wider range of color and decorating styles. Unlike salt-glazed pottery, the Redware is glazed prior to placement into the kiln. The work is then fired high enough to melt the applied glaze to the clay. No lead glazes are used, all Landis pottery is certified food safe. |
