Zaklady Boleslawiec (Bunzlauer) Stoneware - Baking

A heavier style of Polish stoneware than those from Ceramika Artystyczna with more traditional  color patterns and styles.  The stoneware is produced by hand but the factory is owned partly by the Polish Government where as the Ceramika Artystyczna is a co-operative and the employees own the company.  Zaklady does have Enhanced Pattern pieces and Unikat or Signature pieces.  They have four levels of patterns and the pricing is again determined by the amount of hand work required to complete each piece.  The finish is excellent, very high quality and pieces are coated with a heavy clear top glaze over the colors that results in a very durable chip resistant that may be used in your oven, microware and clean up in your dishwasher.

Zaklady Mugs

Why we like Zaklady Polish Stoneware - It's a heavier piece of goods, which means that it has been fired longer, this gives you a harder piece that is more substantial for heavy baking or microwave use,  use them everyday - they hold up just great, it's what they use in Poland. Plus they are less expensive than Ceramika Artystyczna pieces. Still all hand decorated, Certified Lead Free

All Deluxe and Signature Pieces are Signed by the Artist

Pottery Care

If you are new to the joys of using beautiful handmade high-fired stoneware, allow us to provide a little helpful information.

One of the first things you'll discover using Boleslawiec stoneware is the way the clays hold and distribute the heat for evenly browned crusts and casseroles that cook uniformly. If you're accustomed to bakeware that has hotspots, you'll be delighted with Polish stoneware.

Zaklady stoneware has been certified by the Polish government to be 100% lead free. Also, the glaze quality and the high temperatures at which the pottery is fired result in surfaces with very low porosity, so foods can't stick and clean up is a snap. No need to soak baked-on foods.  All pieces clean up in your dishwasher. To avoid chipping on the edges stack stoneware so they can not bang against each other or other pieces in your dish washer.  We recommend Cascade with a Jet Dry rinse agent.

This Polish stoneware may be used with confidence in your oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher.

Very hot and very cold temperatures are handled nicely by the stoneware, but sharp temperature swings are not. As with any high quality clay-based stoneware pieces, rapid changes in temperature will deliver "shocks" and will not allow for the natural expansion and contraction required by the clay. Do not, for example, pour cold liquids into hot bowls or take a casserole dish out of the freezer and put it directly into a hot oven. Likewise, use over direct heat, i.e. range burners and open flames, is not recommended. We recommend starting your baking in a cold or warm (300o) oven, and since the stoneware retains even heat it will continue cooking the food after removal from your oven.  "Our American Heritage" recommends using the same cooking times as in your recipes and check for doneness at the times indicated.

Do Not place a hot dish on a tile or stone counter!  Please use a cloth or wood trivet

While all clay products are breakable, these are incredibly tough because of the way they are made. First, the clay that is used is mixed to carefully developed specifications, then the thick durable clear glaze seals the pieces, and finally we kiln fire our stoneware at high temperatures so the clay particles fuse together into strong, highly chip-resistant pieces.  You enjoy a lifetime of use and beauty.

The finish and colors of these samples, as shown on our website, show approximate colors.   Because of the variation of coloring in digital photographing, and the varying qualities of computer monitors, you should be aware that there may be some color variance from these screen samples to the actual finish sample.  We have tried to eliminate as many variables as possible to try to produce colors and shades as close to the original as possible.

Please Note: All Hand Made Items Are Unique, pottery may vary in color, pattern, shape, size or other physical characteristics.  Bubbles, Grazing and glaze variations are traits of hand craftsmanship, no two pieces made  by hand can be exactly the same, these are signs of uniqueness and NOT defects.
